This happens to me alllll the time. It seems like my skin needs and my logistical situation (how much room/time I have for applying makeup) are ALWAYS changing, so I have to change my routine to match. Right now, I am in college, and I always rush to the building where I have my first class, and then put on makeup in the bathroom there to make sure I’m not late. This means I want a quick, easy routine that doesn’t require a lot of tools. Lately, I had been doing this:
- CoverGirl Smoothers under eye concealer stick
- CoverGirl pressed powder
- CoverGirl LashBlast mascara
- whatever lip gloss I have with me :P
But this just wasn’t working at all. My skin is too dry right now (since it’s so cold and windy here) for the pressed powder to do the trick. I didn’t have time to put primer on underneath, so it wasn’t staying very long, either.
By the way, contrast this with my summer routine (when I had an internship):
- Stila oil-free foundation
- L’Oreal Translucide loose powder
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- CoverGirl eyeshadow singles (taupe and brown)
- Too Faced Snow Bunny blush
- CoverGirl LashBlast mascara
- brown eyeliner… maybe Rimmel
- lip gloss
I had way more time to put on makeup, plus I had a job! You gotta look good for that! :)
Anyhow, I need a quick, long-lasting, brush-free makeup routine… so here’s what I came up with!
- CoverGirl AquaSmooth foundation. Shouldn’t take any longer to apply than the pressed powder, but it will be more long-lasting and full-coverage-y… plus it won’t accentuate my dry skin! I actually used to use this in high school but then I went through my try-every-foundation-ever phase… and it doesn’t hold a candle to my Stila but it’s so much cheaper! :P
- Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Rose Petal. I wanted to try a blush I could apply with my fingers, and this works perfectly. It’s easy to blend and it even has little flecks of gold in it! Very pretty.
- CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain in Sassy Mauve. Isn’t mauve supposed to be kind of purple-ish? That’s what I had expected, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised that this lip stain actually goes on more like a true red! I’m really hoping it will have good lasting power (after eating, etc.) because I really feel like my face is unbalanced if I don’t have any color on my lips. This lip stain is a little drying, as lip stains often are, but if you just put some lip balm on top (I always have Burt’s Bees with me) then you’ll be fine.
- And of course I’ll be keeping my CoverGirl LashBlast mascara!
I am very happy about my new makeup routine… hopefully it will keep my self-confidence up as we get into midterm season.
